The start to a promising new series, I cannot wait for the next installment. I’ve requested Book 2: Sunbringer on NetGalley and am anxiously awaiting the publisher’s response. If you love fantasy steeped in mythology this book is for you. Plus, just look at the cover – LOOK AT IT!!

The classic hidden chosen one story mixed with a “forbidden love” connection, it lost me a bit at the end but not enough that I wouldn’t want to read the follow up. I haven’t seen book 2 announced yet, but once it is I will be on it.

J. Ryan Stradal writes about rural America like no other author I’ve read. His books feel like home, with all the messiness and baggage that brings but also with a slice of pie. His Kitchens of the Great Midwest remains one of my favorite books and I will always recommend his writing, especially if you are a more suburban/city dweller in the USA.

LONE WOMEN

I love a survival western story and this one has supernatural horror laced in with the starvation and scarcity, plus racism, sexism, general discrimination, and more! An amazing tale with one of those endings that kind of makes you want a second book even though you know there won’t be one.

Stephen Graham Jones is a master of the horror genre and anything he writes I will read. I just got granted the advance copy of book 3 (The Angel of Indian Lake) and I am so excited to finish the trilogy. You’ll want to check out My Heart is a Chainsaw (Book 1) before reading this one.

THE GOLDEN ENCLAVES (THE SCHOLOMANCE #3)

This is the best ending to a trilogy I have ever read (so far!). You’ll need to read A Deadly Education (Scholomance #1) and The Last Graduate (Scholomance #2) to get the full effect. Naomi Novik does have a tendency for a saggy middle section in her books, but she more than makes up for it in her endings. Take up this trilogy and soldier through. trust me, you will be thankful.

THE STARLESS CROWN (MOON FALL #1)

A spectacular opening to a fantasy epic series, and one that I did not have the proper time to continue into its second installment (The Cradle of Ice). I plan to return to this series later and give it its proper investment of my time. If you like big brick fantasy novels with excellent world building, magic systems, and creatures, you should check this one out!
